HTML

One of the most important things to remember when writing your html for guestbooks is to always close your tags. What this means is if you have a <font> tag at the beginning of your code, there should be a </font> at the end. This is necessary so that your dusting will not conflict with another persons entry below, or in some cases, it might interfere with the guestbook's page code, and really make the page look strange. Remembering to do the little things will help make your dusting look great, and will also make the guestbook owner willing to have you come back again.

Let's take a look at a sample dusting code.

What would this look like?
Glad you asked!

That's great! You've just made a simple dusting to join in with the parties! However, here are some tips that you may want to hang on to...

  • In notepad, save a .txt file with the coding for your dusting.
When the time comes to join in for a party, all you have to do is open the file, highlight the dusting you wish to use, copy it (ctrl+c) and then paste (ctrl+v) into the comments section of the guestbook.
  • Not all guestbooks accept HTML.
Some accept all the different codes, and some only accept one image. Keep a variation of your dusting in your .txt file. Have one with your main dusting code, have one that is text only (without html or graphics) and have one that uses only one graphic (if your main dusting has more than one).
  • Always remember to view the guestbook First!!
This may sound like it wastes time, but it is important to know what past dustings look like, and what type of coding they have used, before you put yours in the guestbook. Not all guestbooks allow you to confirm what your entry looks like before adding, so checking to see what some of the other entries looks like will help make sure yours works in the book!
  • Some guestbooks don't like separated code
Take a look at our sample dusting html above. When I work with dusting codes, I refer to that as "separated code". Each little section is on it's own line, and some guestbooks, like Bravenet or HTML gear, will see that line break and the <br> and instead of having just the one <br> will place two when the code is added. The sure-fire way to make sure that your code appears as you want it is to made your code "smooshed". If I were saving that dusting code in my .txt file, it would look like this:

    <center><font size="2" face="comic sans ms" color="purple"> <img src='http://www.thesitefights.com/ink2/DPets/partyspirit1.jpg' border="0" width="100" height="100"><br><br>~**~<br>Your site has been chosen!<br>There's to be a party here!<br>Be prepared for streamers<br>Cookies and cake...<br>The party is going to<br>Leave a smile on your face :)<br>So get ready for the gang<br>They're on their way...<br>Here's wishing you<br>A magical day!<br>~**~<br></font></center>

All the html code is still recognized, and everything will look its best when in a guestbook like bravenet or html gear.
