How to Dust a Guestbook

Now that you know how to write a dusting, you need to know how to use one.
That's what this page is all about.

The actual text part of the dusting is easy as it is just that, plain text. But to insert an image into a Guest book you need to use HTML. You use the same code to insert an image into a Guest book as you would to insert an image into your own web page. If you don't know how to do that, don't panic. I'm going to show you.

On the last page, I used my dusting as an example for you. Let me use that again. Only this time, I'm going to show you the HTML I used to make that dusting show up like it does. If you need a refresher on what it looked like, you can go ahead and hit the back button to take a peek.

In case all of that just looks like garble to you, let me explain a few things.

To leave an image in a Guest book you need to use a piece of
code similar to this:

You will need to upload the image you choose to a server somewhere. Most likely the same place where you keep your homepage....although it does have to be to a server that will allow you to leave graphics on remote sites (like a Guest book). If you have your homepage with your isp this should not be a problem. If you are using Geocities, Angelfire, or Tripod for your free home page... you will find that they do not allow remote loading (also called direct linking) of graphics. Some other free web space providers may allow it...others will not.

If you need a place to host your dusting images and/or a fairy email address, you can contact DRhapsody (rhapsody@thesitefights.com)! She will give you a little fairy home of your own ;).

Another great place I recommend is Photobucket. They are free, Very easy to use, and they provide you with the html code for your images. *S*

To link that image to a page (TSF for instance) you'll need some more code. I'll use the same code I used above, only now, I'm going to add the code that you'll need to link somewhere.

Please don't forget the closing /a tag on the end as that is what closes the link. If you forget that, everything after that image will also be linked to the page. That can be annoying to everyone involved...

You are also welcome to leave dustings that do not have graphics included - just spice them up with fancy colors and *~*~*~* Fairy Dust *~*~*~*~

You can also put your dusting signature up on a web page. - and leave the url to your dusting in your Guest book signature. Then those you've dusted can click on your link to visit and see what you've left for them *S*

As you can see there are plenty of options! *S* So never fear.....the Fairy Dust will continue to fly throughout DRealm and TSF!!!! *S*

Okay, you're not home free yet. *S* There are still a few other things you need to know.

IMPORTANT: For those of you who are fighting Fairies... When you are dusting a Guest book, you *may not* include a plea for votes. This issue has gone all the way up to DMan, and that is his word on the issue. So please, don't do that.

When dusting a Guest book, please use your own e-mail address. As your homepage, you need to enter DRealm of the Fairies and as the URL you need to enter http://www.thesitefights.com/fairies/ - Please don't forget that. :)

Now, one more tiny thing. A lot of pages now have Dreambooks. Many of our fairies have found that Dreambooks often won't accept graphics. I'm not proclaiming to understand this particular phenomenon, but it happens. Some fairies choose to dust Dreambooks with a text only version of their sprinkle. That means no special graphics. If you can't get your dusting to work in our training Dreambook below then please have a text only version to use when you come upon one while dusting.

At any rate, I've included a Site Fights Spirit Book, a Guestworld Guest book and a Dreambook below. So, you can try out a sprinkle in each and see how it goes. If you don't have one made up right this second, no problem. Just bookmark this page and come back when you do. But please, give your sprinkle a little test drive before you start using it in the fighters' guest books. This way you can eliminate any glitches ahead of time.

When you get your Sprinkle just right, it's a good idea to save it into a text file so that you can copy and paste it into the guest books. This will help you to avoid any typing or coding errors.

I have a note pad file with all my html for my dustings, along with text-only versions.
