Who's Dman - Issue 24: D'Swamp Race So Far things
we're going quite well for Odette and Myself. I really couldn't believe
how well we were doing. I had the sheet with the scores in my hand. Here's
what it looked like .....
So the score so far was Dman & Nick at 22 and Duncle & Odette at 23. It was a VERY close race. At any moment Dman and Nick could take the lead in this one. We would have to be careful. After a week of being rained out and not being able to compete, the four of us made our way down to D'stadium. Few people had made it down. It seems that many people had tried to stay out of the rain and didn't want to chance coming down to the stadium in case something had happened. Crews were hard at work trying to do something with all the water that had collected over the past week. Weeds had grown out of control and it was a big, swampy, marshy mess. Dreferee waited for us with his waist high water boots on. He had a sad look on his face. " I think we'll have to pospone for another wek to get this mess cleaned up." Dman looked down at his feet. "Now wait a mintue. We're already messy, let's jsut race like this!" Dreferee's eyes lit up, Great Idea!! The area was cleared of cleaning crews. We didn't know what lay ahead of us. Inside that mess there could be holes, drop-offs, all sorts of hazards. Nick had some gizmo in his hand and was plotting something. Odette had to promise, that if she was gonna fly, she had to keep her feet in the water. 15 foot Lanes were set up that we had to stay within. Odette in Lane one, Nick in lane two, Myself in Lane three and Dman in Lane four. Dreferee smiled at us and prepared us for this interesting race. The gun sounded. Odette seemed to take an easy lead. Nick took his time and followed the course his gizmo had layed out. Dman and myself we're running neck and neck. We were quickly in waist high water. Odette fulttered happily along, buzzing backwards and watching the rest of us struggle. She laughed a little. Dman went down, His head was below the water. I didn't know if I should stop to help or keep going. I slowed down only to see Dman swimming under the water and passing me. Nick plodded along following his path. Odette saw Dman swimming into the lead. She turned to get back ahead. Not seeing the weeds, she was quickly tangled. I followed Dman's approach and began to swim. Dman had a good little lead. Nick passed Odette as she got herself out from the weeds. He was still in knee high water. Dman Had gotten his foot tangled in some weeds and I took the lead. Nick was getting close behind. Odette was dodging weeds all along her path. I could see the finish line just ahead. Suddenly I was grounded. The water suddenly got shallow. I had to stand to start to run. I trudged along. Nick had caught up to me. Odette was right behind. I was nearly at the finish line when I suddenly Fell into deep water once again. Nick was in the lead, Odette pushed her little wings as hard as they would go. From under the water I couldn't tell who crossed the finish line first. I did manage to get across the finish line before Dman though. Odette was doing loops in the air. Seems that she'd come in First. Nick was a close second. Myself of course came in third and Dman will be pulling weeds out of his pants for weeks to come. It was a lot of fun. I shook Dtoad out of my pant leg and watched as D'gardner began the clean up once again. Nick was already hard at work building D'weeder to help get D'stadium ready for next week's competition. Don't forget to check out the 9th event D'painting in Odette's Column next week. (editor's note: Sadly, I cannot find Odette's Column as it too, stopped coming out just like Who's Dman :-/ -- Duncan) In the next issue, DUncle gets a little lost... Click

issue twenty-five.
