Who's
Dman - Issue 18C: Interview With DWombat
(editor's
note: issue 18 has been broken into 3 parts to allow for easier readability
-- Duncan)
It
was at this point that I noticed that Dspot was missing. Hmm, he must've
run off with Dfun. Dspot blended in with everything so well, he could
be hard to find sometimes. Finally I did Spot Dspot and the three of us
began the morning jog. Though I did notice that it was D'afternoon. I
was way behind on my work out. I knew a way to get ahead on my work out
though. I would catch a plane to the underside of The Site Fights. Yes
that's right, I was gonna go down under and catch up on my time. It should
be early in the morning down that way, so off I went. Graeme and Dspot
followed close behind.
As
soon as we arrived, we were greeted with Shrimp fresh from the Barbie
and Wallaby Coolers. Barbie was a terriffic waitress. After a refreshing
snack, the workout continued. I started joging and Dspot and Graeme were
close behind, cheering me on. When my coughing fit hit, I had to stop
and hold myself up by a tree. *cough-cough*. Shhhhhhh.. "It's still early
in the morning down here. We're trying to sleep." Dwombat was up in the
tree with a couple of Koalas. Several Wombats were scurrying to hid from
the light. I passed out a bunch of Dsunglasses © to them and they
couldn't see us anymore so calmed down. I apologized to Dwombat and explained
that I need to go somewhere where it was early this morning, and it was
getting to be Dafternoon where we were. We had a good talk, here's what
I found out from her.

DUncle |
When
did you become involved with the Site Fights? |
 |
| DWombat |
I
became involved in the fights towards the end of 1997 |
| DUncle |
What
were the Site Fights like back in the early days? |
| DWombat |
Well
they were just as much fun as they are now, they just weren't as big
as they are now. There were not as many teams then, people were just
as friendly, the competition was just as fierce and you definately
had to have Spirit, get to know other competitors and be friendly.
|
| DUncle |
How
did you end up as Dwombat? |
| DWombat |
Well
I joined Nicks Knockout Artists, and Nick was then and still is just
like a real brother to me, he is always helping me out in some way
or other and I just hope I can be as good a team leader as he was
although Nick eventually had to close that team down (Graphy took
it over and it's now the City Crusdaers) Nick became too busy doing
a lot of the behind the scene things which kept the site fights up
and running. I made it as far as the DMan Dome but didn't win it...
well now what chance did a little Aussie Lady have against a site
which was more or less dedicated to US Vietnam Veterans, .... then
DMan asked me if I would like a team of my own.... why he did I don't
know unless he thought having a crazy Aussie lady in the DFamily seemed
like a good idea.... I'm glad he did because I just love being a part
of it all. |
| DUncle |
Does
being from down under cause running the team to be different? |
| DWombat |
Nah,
I just stand on my head and then everything is the right way up. LOL
In a lot of ways I'm luckier than other leaders who are in America,
they are either up late at night or in the early hours of the morning
counting votes and updating pages where as in my time zone I'm doing
it in the late afternoon....for instance midnight Monday in America
is Tuesday afternoon here. In fact at last count I think there are
four teams altogether which are run by leaders who are living in Australia.
|
| DUncle |
How
has your team changed since it began? |
| DWombat |
Oh
it's always changing, I've lost count of the number of times we have
changed how it looks and we are always trying out new ideas to make
things more fun for the fighters. Each time we do there is always
someone willing to help out so now I have a great team of helpers.
|
| DUncle |
How
many warriors have made it to win the Dome? |
| DWombat |
Lots
have actually made it to the dome, well actually I've lost count just
how many have entered the Dome and 6 or 7 have actually won it...
|
| DUncle |
Are
there any upcoming events we can look forward to from the Wombat Warriors?
|
| DWombat |
Oh
yes we have a few things under wraps which we will announce eventually
and of course our Hostess with DMostest is always hosting our Wombats
Wandering Parties somewhere on the Message board. |
| DUncle |
Do
Wombats carry anything around in their pouches? |
| DWombat |
They
sure do, they carry heaps and heaps of Spirit Sticks and bags of Fairy
Dust. |
| DUncle |
What
is your most memorable event from the Site Fights?
|
| DWombat |
There are loads of memorable events at the Site Fights, and on a personal
level I think getting my Birthday Book was the most wonderful experience.....
and with people from all over the world signing it I realized the
sun just never sets on the Site Fights, cause every day there is someone
in the world coming here to visit, to fight or to vote for a friend.
|
| DUncle |
In
your mind, Who's Dman? |
| DWombat |
DMan
is someone with a vision. He saw the internet as a great place for
people to get to know one another and to have some fun doing it. He
dreamed up the concept of the fights in the first place and then just
made it all happen. He knew the people would come and they did. We
all love him for it... |
Once
we were done talking to Dwombat, she'd informed me that it was actually
tomorrow where she lived. Hmm, WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!. That means that if
the sun is coming up here, it was going down where we came from , it was
past my bedtime. I had to get running. Dspot, Graeme and myself had to
get back home before it was too late. I didn't want to miss up on my beauty
rest (and if you've seen Dfamily Album, I was in need of it).
We
found ourselves back home just as the sun was begining to set. I began
to wonder if I was ever gonna get any training in. I guess I would just
have to find out tomorrow. Graeme took Dspot home for the night so I could
sleep without worrying if he'd jumped out Dwindow again. I sat on Dbed,
put Dsunglasses © on Dnight stand, lay down and shut my eyes. Boy
what a day this was. At least I was prepared for the stress of competing
in D'cathalon...WOO~HOO
In
the next issue, D'Cathalon begins!
