Who's Dman - Issue 10: What about Nick?

That's right, What about Nick? For those who've been at the Site Fights for a LONG time, you'll remember, Nick KnockOut Artists (Nick's KOA is not to be confused with Kampgrounds of America). Nick has been around for a long time here. He's helped perform many behind the scenes tasks that help make The Site Fights what they are.

Please take some time today to drop Nick And send him a thank you for all he does. Now with no more delays, let see what Nick has to say...WOO~HOO.

DUncle When did you become involved with the Site Fights?
Nick I started as a fighter back in November of 1996. Back then there were no teams. I made it as far as the Warzone. Back then since the fights were small sites use to stay in rings longer. About half way though my last week in the Warzone Dman emailed me that he was expanding the fights and wanted to know if I would run a team off of m homepage. I thought it would be fun so I said yes! :D
DUncle When did you stop running your Team?
Nick Gee... I think it was around April 1997. Dman had started having me do things like setting up new teams as they came onboard. Backing him up with the dome and warzone and some technical stuff. (See he found out that I've worked on computers as a programer for 15 years ). It was getting too much to do all that and run a team. By then I had had my first fighter in the Dome and she had started a team (DWombat). So we went looking for someone to take over Nicks Knockout Artists. That's when Graphy's Gladiators started. The KOA's became the Gladiators.
DUncle Being that many people don't see you, Who are you now in Dfamily?
Nick I do a little bit of everything. I setup all the scripts for the fights. Setup newusers, handle the postcards. Generally I maintain the technical things that the fights need. And , along with DMan maintain the main pages of the fights (cover etc).
DUncle What kind of day do you have behind the scenes?
Nick

I spend a good bit of my time just running the server stats. When we started keeping track (49 weeks ago now) it would take maybe 30 - 45 minutes to run a complete report for the month. Now that can take up to 3 hours.

I get a good deal of requests to update/add postcards or add a new guestbook. Sometimes I even get requests to make eggs hatch! ;D

DUncle What challenges do you face from day to day?
Nick

Trying to keep things running. As we continue to grow it becomes more of a challenge. Managing the disk space and server usage. We are going thru another MAJOR growth spurt right now.

Another challenge is trying to keep things fresh for people. New ideas. Better, faster ways of doing things.

DUncle How do you feel that you've helped to shape the Site Fights?
Nick I've helped to add some interactive things like the message boards and chat. The tickers that everyone seems to like. But like I tell everyone here... all the "smoke and mirrors" behind the scenes means nothing without the people we have interacting with the fighters. That's the heart of the fights.
DUncle What schemes can you let us in on for the future?
Nick

There are some projects on the drawing board or in "dream stage". We are always looking for ways to make the Fights better, and more usefull-fun for people.

But the right now the biggest thing is going to be a server upgrade of some sort to handle the growth.

DUncle How has the Site Fights changed since you became part of Dfamily?
Nick

BIGGER!!! We have grown to size that I thought was just a pipe dream when I started! :D

For me, I miss the interaction with the fighters. But there just isn't enough time in a day to do everything.

DUncle In your mind, Who's Dman?
Nick

I could say he's the guy that dreams up things at night... emails them to me and says "No rush... but can you make it work??" :D

All joking aside.... He's someone that has given us all the opportunity to learn some new things and meet some super people. To quote a movie and paraphrase DMan..."Build it and they will come" We're building all the time and they do keep comming. So I guess we are doing something good here. :)

Thanks so much Nick. As you can see, This is one person who deserves thanks. He may hide out and not be seen too often, but he does help all of Dfamily and help us get our jobs done. So my hat is off to you (don't look at my hat hair). Thanks once again for all you do for all of us in Dfamily....Now your question. Who's Next. Well, I've managed to pin down Dpatrol. And guess what, Dpatrol was visiting Dpatrol. Confused yet, well, come back next week as I bring you, the Tale of Two Dpatrols.... Til then, remember WOO~HOOOOOOoooooooo........

Next issue, DUncle interviews DPatrol Joanie as well as Luke from the old FireFights team...
