Who's Dman Archive - Issue One

Have you ever wondered how the Site Fights is run? Who the driving force behind the scenes is? Where and how did all this Begin? Well, Get ready, this is the first of many installments to come. The search for the answer to the question that plagues us all. ¿¿¿Who's Dman???

In the beginning......

A lone figure found himself once again in front of the computer terminal. The soft glow lights illuminating a face intent on finding a way to change the face of the internet. "How can I get more people to see what it is that I've done?" was the question ever present within the ever thinking mind.

Applying for awards, Signing Guestbooks, endlessly surfing pages. A lot of work to increase traffic, and once he stopped, so did the traffic. There had to be a way to get people to WANT to come into the page.

What is it that draws people into those huge mega sites? People always seem to flock there and have no problem showing other people the way to this great new Site. How do you get people to want to not only visit your site, but to come there often and to bring their friends? This was a question floating in Dman's mind.

Fate played its hand the following day. While surfing and once again trying to get people to come to his Web Site, a small tussle occured between the two daughters. The fight lasted only a couple of minutes then off they went happy as ever, as can only happen between sisters.

Or can it? A light bulb goes off. "I've got it!" A place where people can take their creation, compete with other people's creations, Win prizes, get more traffic, but most of all, meet other people and make friends with people they've never met before. That's what needs to be done. You can almost hear the Internet crying out for it. An Internet Competition!! An Internet Sport!!

And so, in early 1996, SJWeb's Site Fights was born. It found it's home at http://www.sjweb.com/java/animate/fight.htm. (Of course it has long since moved on). With a feverish pace, the pages took form. The levels of competition took place. Many decisions needed to be made. There were no teams, only one round of competition. In the first battle that was fought, MR. Virtual Spud Head lost to OJ, and we find SJWeb's Site Fights taking on a whole new persona.

Next issue, DUncle talks about how the first teams were formed.
